Drowning in Red

Drowning in Red, 2D Art
Drowning in Red
In my piece, I employed black and white chalk along with black and white Conte. I have always loved axolotls, and after finding out that they are a critically endangered species, an animal in the red zone of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's endangered species list, I felt compelled to draw attention to the plight of the axolotls. In the process of completing this work, I sketched my axolotl then transferred it to the black paper found in the completed piece, then filled in the details using chalk and Conte. Chalk was mainly used for shading and smooth skin, and the Conte was used for details and the texture found on the face and gills of the axolotl.
